Our agency is a full-service law enforcement agency which provides service twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week. It is comprised of twenty-one sworn police officers including the Chief of Police and five civilian employees. The Fruitland Police Department handles all aspects of traffic and criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and a vast array of other services.

Below you will find the answers to some frequently asked questions for those who wish to file a complaint against a Fruitland Police employee.
The Chief is interested in hearing from the citizens of the City of Fruitland regarding departmental employees, regardless of the nature – commendation or complaint. The Fruitland Police Department accepts and thoroughly investigates all complaints on the part of its personnel.
All complaints are subject to investigation except those differences of opinion on the issuance of criminal charges, traffic and civil citations or parking citations.
No. Criminal, traffic, and civil charges must be resolved by the courts
Yes. You can request to meet or speak with an employee’s supervisor and be heard regarding your concerns. Your opinion is important to us in ensuring a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
Complaints should be filed as soon as practical. Delays in filing a complaint could seriously hamper an investigation since, as time passes, evidence may be lost, personal memory of the incident may diminish, and witnesses may be difficult to locate
Under Maryland Law, brutality complaints must be signed and sworn to, under penalty of perjury, and filed within 366 days of the incident.
Investigations of police officers are governed by State law and certain procedures must be followed. All investigations are completed as soon as possible.
Findings are mailed to the complainant at the conclusion of the investigation. In some instances, the Chief or his designee may contact a complainant personally in lieu of sending a letter
The Fruitland Police Department encourages the filing of legitimate complaints as a means to hold the office and its employees accountable to the public. However, any false, misleading, and/or malicious allegations may result in civil and/or criminal sanctions.
Speed Camera Disclosure: The Fruitland Police Department has a Speed Management System.
The cameras are deployed at different locations throughout the City and are often redeployed to areas where enhanced speed enforcement is deemed necessary.
